A Local Escape
FROM Brooklyn TO New Paltz WITH Emily Koyama, director of marketing & e-commerce at MUTHA
Filed under: Brooklyn
Friday
3:00 PM
Escape the city via Amtrak train from Penn Station to Poughkeepsie Station. Upon arrival, rent a car for your weekend stay to explore neighbouring towns. Insider tip: it’s much more cost-efficient to rent outside the city. If you’re not feeling up for the drive, then book a cab from your final train stop or you can take the Metro-North train from Grand Central Station for a more picturesque route. Once settled, head to Huckleberry bar and kitchen for takeaway or patio dining.
Saturday
10:00 AM
“Fuel up on a big breakfast at Main Street Bistro before the rigorous but very special Duck Pond Trail hike. AllTrails is my go-to for hiking routes.”
The Duck Pond trail connects to Lemon Squeeze, a slim passageway through rock formation. Once you’ve passed through, your next hurdle is Sky Top Tower, where you’ll find the most spectacular views of the Mohonk Preserve. Learn more about this majestic area and the Mohonk Preserve, the largest visitor-supported nature preserve in New York State here.

Following our hike, we headed back to our Airbnb—there are so many great stays in the area. If you’re looking for a B&B stay, then check out Watergrasshill, a charming 19th-century farmhouse.
4:00 PM
Farm Stand and Orchards
“Pick up provisions for the evening and to take home for the week at the farm stand. It has a little bit of homemade everything, from seasonal fruit to apple cider donuts to fresh jams. If you have time, pick your own apples, pumpkins or berries, depending on the season. ”

Long lunch
“Enjoy a late farm-to-table lunch at one of the house’s many dining locations before heading back to the city.”
“Take in the views while you dine or drink at the historic home, founded in 1869. The house’s indoor and outdoor fire pits will keep you cozy during winter month visits.”
